Kmail has this bug reported and is aware, but is something that needs to be fixed before Squeeze is released as it is serious. To reproduce the bug, begin composing an email and then close Kontact. When Kontact is reopened and kmail is displayed, the email should be there in available by clicking on kontact in the bar at the bottom of your screen, but it will not be there.
