I understand now: kde-style-qtcurve style plugin is installed as /usr/lib/kde4/plugins/styles/qtcurve.so Under KDE desktop, the QT_PLUGIN_PATH environment variable is expanded: QT_PLUGIN_PATH=~/.kde/lib/kde4/plugins/:/usr/lib/kde4/plugins/ If you want your Qt applications able to use the plugin, you should set QT_PLUGIN_PATH as appropriate in your Desktop environment.
