I'm facing this bug too. I use NX a lot for remote access and I always get this on the second remote login. This is really annoying ! I thought it was NX fault first. When I'm back to local console, I have to switch desktop effects on/off a few times with alt-shift-f12 to get rid of this. I hope it is fixed in 4.4.5 as it is said on http://kde.org/info/4.4.5.php there is currently no known bug.
