In addition to the display error reported for the Alt-Tab window list and
the "Benachrichtigungen und Aktivitäten" (Notifications & activities) popup
display:
As I just noticed, the same erroneous effect also appears,
when a quick-info ("balloon-help") display appears for icons on my desktop,
but NOT for the proper previews which e.g. show the content of a folder.
Reproducability: every time with proper triggering procedure
How to reproduce (multiple variants):
On my system, desktop icons are located only on the primary display desktop
area right now, and the second display is located above the primary display.
So when I move the mouse over an icon on the desktop which represents a
file or a link, and after a second the quick-info window for that icon pops
up either of two things can happen:
- If the desktop icon is in the top row, the quick info will probably
appear on the second display (because the quick-info appears above the
desktop icon, and the first display ends just above the top icon row)
(Actually, the position of the quick-info depends upon the exact position
of the mouse, it can happen that a top-row.desktop-icon.quick-info appears
just a bit too low and thus partially on either screen)
- If the desktop icon is in a lower row, the quick info will probably
appear on the first display.
So when I move the mouse over a desktop icon in the top row, wait for the
quick-info to appear (on display 2), and then move the mouse over a desktop
icon in a lower row, and wait for the quick-info to appear,...
...then whenever a quick-info appears on another screen than the one where
the last quick-info appeared, a matching punched-out-almost-background hole
appears on the previously used display.
The error does ONLY happen for the quick-info for icons representing files
or links, it does NOT happen for the larger preview-popup for icons
representing directories.
The error also occurs when a quick-info for the program-representations in
the task-bar is shown (after any previously displayed
hole-punching-capable-pop-up has been shown on the other display just before),
This observation is an important addition to the previous report because:
(a) The affected components belong to kde/plasma again.
(b) Preconditions of the error have been further narrowed down:
It IS ONLY important, on which display the preceding popup has appeared. If
the preceding popup has appeared on the other display, hole-punching-error
will occur.
Popup windows which HAVE the capability to trigger the error:
KDE/Plasma Alt-tab window-list, System-portion-of-control-bar-Notification
popup, desktop-icon quick-info, quick-info for a
running-program-representation in the task bar.
It has been sufficient when a part of the desktop-icon quick-info appears
on the other display at least in some attempts.
After closer testing/observation: The information, on which display the
last popup window has been shown, is obviously stored independently per
task; where desktop-icon-quick-infos and task-bar-quick-infos belong to the
same task, and the Alt-Tab-window-list has independent information on where
it has appeared last.
Popup windows which DO NOT trigger the error:
KDE/Plasma Alt-F2 "execute command" input dialog, preview of folder
contents for folder-representing desktop icon (and previously mentioned
eclipse splash screen, which I just tested a couple of times but couldn't
see it punching holes)
It is NOT important on which display the mouse pointer is while the
hole-punching-popup-error occurs.
It is NOT important on which display the focus is while the
hole-punching-popup-error occurs.
I hope this helps again - must now go back to other work ... :-)
Kind regards, Joerg
