I'm not really sure if I'm reporting this issue against the right package, but I'll do it as a starting point. Since the last libqtgui4 upgrade (from 4.4.3-2 to 4.5.1-1), Synaptic has begun to behave strangely when called from a KDE4 session: the preconfiguration perl script causes a glibc detected error and dies.
