Back in KDE2, there was a way to turn off the "apply KDE defaults to
non-KDE apps" feature.
It doesn't seem to be present anymore. The old "Look & Feel" menu that
used to have this option has been split up and/or renamed. I checked
under every node in "Appearance & Behavior", though.
This feature needs to come back, and should default *off* in Debian, as
it causes x-terminal-emulator to be broken when (u)xterm is used as the
terminal emulator and the user's locale is configured to use the UTF-8
character set.
Also, kcontrol is wrong to call the files in
/usr/share/apps/kdisplay/app-defaults/*.ad "app-defaults". They're not.
It is using them as X resources.

Hi,
You filed the bug http://bugs.debian.org/255729
in the Debian BTS against the package kcontrol.
Debian has switched to KDE 4 in unstable and kcontrol
does not exist in KDE 4. Therefore, I am closing this bug as fixed
in *unstable*. The bug will remain open for stable since it is
shipping KDE 3.5.
systemsettings is the replacement for KDE 4 of KControl.
