Just FYI, I can confirm this bug on my system (I also have lots of feeds I subscribe to) and using a higher ulimit value alone does not fix the issue. I guess upstream introduced a new arbirtrary limitation somewhere, which should be fixed... Will post in upstream BTS, too.
