Hello Armin After some time dealing with a crazy hardware?????? problem in my main box I am able to give some more information about the refresh problem.
The problem never shows up in case kwin composite effects are active. So, if the problem is originated in X level, as you mention, it can be avoided at kwin/plasma level. The problem persists in KDE 4.2.1 + qt 4.4.3-2. I have not tested qt 4.5 yet. The problem is reproducible for every graphics card I have access. (Nvidia, ATI, Intel) Despite it may be reproducible for every application as you say, it have much more impact in some aplications (allways in my experience) and less impact on others (barely in my experience) -- Thanks for your time and effort.
