Package: kdm
Version: 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-6
Severity: important
The subject says it all. On my installation I modify /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc
by commenting out the ServerArgsLocal entry, because I, in this case,
don't want the "-nolisten tcp" option.
But the invocation of genkdmconf in /etc/init.d/kdm changes this back,
removing the comment when it generates /var/run/kdm/kdmrc, thus
forbidding tcp listening whether I wish it or not.
It may be that this is just a documentation problem - that there is
a way around this. But I have not been able to find any documentation
on what the genkdmconf program actually does - only which files it reads

Hi,
kdm uses /var/run/kdm/kdmrc generated from /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc
in /etc/init.d/kdm with genkdmconf:
KDMCFGDIR=/var/run/kdm
genkdmconf --in $KDMCFGDIR
if you update ServerArgsLocal in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc,
make sure you call /etc/init.d/kdm.
to test:
* edit /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc
* update ServerArgsLocal parameter
* call genkdmconf --in /var/run/kdm
* edit /var/run/kdm/kdmrc
* check ServerArgsLocal parameter was properly synced
which is the case for me. Now, restart kdm to make the change takes effect.
cheers,
Fathi
