Hi again, I ran gdb on the uic call and got:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. [Switching to Thread -1491208512 (LWP 25059)] 0xa565929b in vtkInstantiatorHashTable::Erase () from /usr/lib/libvtkCommon.so.5.0 So this whole thing could be due to vtk. Also VTK versions differ between etch and sid -- which would explain a lot. I'm currently compiling the latest VTK for etch and will test whether the problem remains.
