Session icewm should start icewm-session exec instead of icewm.
So you can change that in:
/usr/share/apps/kdm/sessions/icewm.desktop
or add another session like icewm-session.desktop with:
Exec=icewm-session
TryExec=icewm-session
Name=IceWM-Session
The difference between icewm-session and icewm is that:
icewm runs pure window manager (with toolbar)
icewm-session runs wm with additional programs like:
icewmbg (background configurator) and
icewmtray (system tray for dock appl)
