Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation?
Attempting to install KDE-Standard surfaced the dependency breakage with
qt6-base-private-abi
While frustrating, this is not a bug in any package. When a new library
with an incompatible ABI is introduced, many other packages may need to be
rebuilt against the new ABI. This is called a "transition", and the rebuild
progress can be tracked in [1]. That unstable is broken right now is why it
is named as such (and nicknamed after the Toy Story character that breaks
toys, Sid).
The Qt/KDE maintainers are very aware of the transition, and this bug does
not make them any more aware of the problem. On the other hand, there
sometimes are very real issues preventing rebuilds of certain packages.
Genuine nontrivial patches addressing real rebuild problems that arise during
the transition would presumably be very well received (and helpful to the
overall transition timeline).
For instance, right now on that list you may notice that plasma-workspace [2]
cannot be rebuilt because of an unexpected change in the symbols exposed
by libraries built in that package.
I've personally refrained from filing a bug for that because I suspect that
the maintainers are already aware of it, and are trying to fix it (and I don't
know enough about the ecosystem to decide what do). (If it's not identified
after another upload cycle, I might file a bug pointing this out).
I've also included a link [3] on how to adjust the properties of this bug.
Best,
Antonio Russo
