Dear all, not sure this is the right place to post it, but here it goes anyway. I run kde akregator to fetch RSS feeds. dpk --status says:
$ dpkg --status akregator Package: akregator Status: install ok installed Priority: optional Section: web Installed-Size: 2208 Maintainer: Debian Qt/KDE Maintainers <debian-qt-kde@lists.debian.org> Architecture: i386 Source: kdepim Version: 4:3.5.0-0ubuntu0breezy1 Depends: kdelibs4c2 (>= 4:3.4.3-1), libc6 (>= 2.3.4-1), libgcc1 (>= 1:4.0.1), libkdepim1a (>= 4:3.4.2), libqt3-mt (>= 3:3.3.4), libstdc++6 (>= 4.0.1) I typically restrict fetches to once per day, to avoid overloading servers (which occasionally are just run by hobbyiests or small departments). However, when a HTTP GET fails (typically "404 Object Not Found") , akgregator will then start polling the server every minute (filling up my proxy's logs in the act). This is undesirable, since the load will be even worse on the server, and (in my experience), a failed feed doesn't come back by probing more often. I would argue that the default behaviour should be to stick to the (custom)FetchInterval. Maybe a 'ProbeOnFailureInterval' parameter could be added, should people want to deviate from the (custom)FetchInterval in the case of failure. Alternatively, a 'Enable/Disable' state per feed, with feeds automatically being disabled (with visible cues in UI) after a failure, or whatever.
