The long description, however, includes in its list of modules on which kde depends a module --- kdepim --- which was introduced only when KDE 3.2.0 was released. It would therefore appear that the metapackage has had to be modified and the version number should have been incremented. It is most _confusing_ to a user if the metapackage version number and the release which the metapackage "pulls in" are different. --------------------------------------- Received: (at 244254-done) by bugs.debian.org; 18 Apr 2004 04:11:25 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Apr 17 21:11:25 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from pico.surpasshosting.com [66.194.152.191] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1BF3eP-0006U3-00; Sat, 17 Apr 2004 21:11:25 -0700 Received: from conr-adsl-cheney.txucom.net ([207.70.165.48] helo=calc-amd64) by pico.surpasshosting.com with esmtp (TLSv1:RC4-SHA:128) (Exim 4.24) id 1BF3e3-0004Uv-Ts; Sun, 18 Apr 2004 00:11:04 -0400 Received: from ccheney by calc-amd64 with local (Exim 4.31) id 1BF3dq-0002QS-LF; Sat, 17 Apr 2004 23:10:50 -0500 Date: Sat, 17 Apr 2004 23:10:50 -0500 From: Chris Cheney <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Bruce Miller <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Bug#244254: kde: Ambiguous version number Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="pFej7zHSL6C5fFIz" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.5.1+cvs20040105i X-AntiAbuse: This header was added to track abuse, please include it with any abuse report X-AntiAbuse: Primary Hostname - pico.surpasshosting.com X-AntiAbuse: Original Domain - bugs.debian.org X-AntiAbuse: Originator/Caller UID/GID - [47 12] / [47 12] X-AntiAbuse: Sender Address Domain - cheney.cx Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-5.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 X-Spam-Level: X-CrossAssassin-Score: 1 --pFej7zHSL6C5fFIz Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On Sat, Apr 17, 2004 at 11:59:50AM -0400, Bruce Miller wrote: > Package: kde > Severity: minor > Tags: sid >=20 > -- System Information: > Debian Release: testing/unstable > APT prefers unstable > APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') > Architecture: i386 (i686) > Kernel: Linux 2.6.4 > Locale: LANG=3DC, LC_CTYPE=3DC >=20 > The version number on the metapackage "kde" is 3.1.5. The version number for the kde metapackage is 3.1.2. > The long description, however, includes in its list of modules on which > kde depends a module --- kdepim --- which was introduced only when KDE > 3.2.0 was released. The metapackage kdepim has existed since the KDE 3.0.0 debs. > It is most _confusing_ to a user if the metapackage version number and the > release which the metapackage "pulls in" are different. I plan to bump the version number once meta-kde depends on something specific to kde 3.2 currently it does not depend on anything specific to kde 3.2 and in fact it hasn't even been uploaded since KDE 3.2 has been released.
