Well, advantages are that it's a script, and can generate dynamic output. Currently, this is only used for automatically enabling debug mode when DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS contains nostrip, but this is a very useful feature imho ( speaking as the maintainer of unofficial kde debug packages ). cheers domi
