Steps to reproduce: - Configure a new IRC connection. Use Latin-1 as the character set. - Open another (non-Kopete) IRC client. Send messages with varying number of non-ASCII Latin-1 characters to your Kopete user. (Below I will use # as a marker of a non-ASCII character as Debian bug tracking system has had some problems with those, too... In my real experiments I used LATIN SMALL LETTER A WITH DIAERESIS, an "a" with two dots, Latin-1 character code 0xE4.) Messages such as "xyz#xyz#xyz#xyz#xyz#xyz" are displayed correctly. Messages such as "xyz#xyz#xyz#xyz#xyz#xyz#xyz" are displayed a bit like "xyz[]yz[]yz[]yz[]yz[]yz[]yz", here "[]" stands for a box which one typically sees as a placeholder for a missing character.
