Package: ksmserver Version: 3.4.0-0pre3 On a test system I tried installing a fairly minimal set of KDE 3.4.0 packages from "pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-3.4.0".
kpersonalizer was not included in the installation, but I did have at least ksmserver, ksplash, kdesktop, kicker, kwin, kcontrol, konqueror, and a few other accessories. When I tried to start KDE, I got a message saying something to the effect of "ksmserver failed to start; please check your installation". I checked ~/.xsession-errors, and it appeared to me that ksmserver was trying to start kpersonalizer, failing to do so because it wasn't installed, and then terminating. (I'm not 100% sure that's an accurate description of what actually happened, but it seemed that way.) So I installed kpersonalizer, and KDE started without complaint. IMHO, KDE should be able to start without kpersonalizer. Or, if that's not an option, then ksmserver should depend on kpersonalizer. I can likely reproduce this again, and get additional information if you need it. Let me know. Thanks. -- graham -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
