You have to add the following line to the "Device" section of your nvidia 
card:

        Option "RenderAccel" "true"

[ Of course you must have the nvidia binary drivers installed. ]

Read more about this setting and the effect it'll have on your OpenGL 
experience in /usr/share/doc/nvidia-glx/README.gz (check the 
AllowGLXWithComposite option, too). You should believe what they say when 
they tag those option as "experimental" because it'll break your X from time 
to time. Mine crashes but it looks good :)
