Some source packages build more than one version of binaries using
different configuration options; these versions are called flavors. In
some cases, only a subset of flavors or components is needed, which is
translated into a subset of binary packages. Building only selected
flavors is useful for developers that try to fix bugs, and derivatives
whose patches are not merged in Debian.
A standard to express this flavor selection is desirable, like
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS. For instance, I use DEB_BUILD_FLAVOURS="flavor1
flavor2". The following example packages use flavors; they are from
Squeeze, but I hope you get the idea:
