Hi Rene, I missed your discussion re dpkg at the bottom of your message,
so I apologise if my reopen came across as too harsh, not addressing
context. I got too used to people top-posting!
Anyhow, I converted the "close" tag to "fixed" in 1:7.1.1~rc2-1. If you
think this bug really does need to be closed and dropped, then I won't
reopen it again.

It's quite a serious bug in terms of usability of this part of the
package. Can the patch be applied to 7.0.4 in unstable targetted for
inclusion in the bullseye stable release?
I am not sure. Where do you draw the line? But given I probably need to
work around dpkg not working as expected anyway, maybe.
Marking the metadata., though (thus also "closing" it for 7.1.1)
