Hi, I have observed this same problem in my Squeeze system. I don't work with pps/ppt, but my mother likes to listen to those spammy mails that her friends send her. So, I've played a little bit around to see if I could find an easy way for her to listen to the audio in pps/ppt, and I have observed several issues: 1- Some pps/ppt can be opened with MPlayer or VLC just as though they were sound files, and you can listen the audio. The reason why this happens must be complicated, because some can only be listened through MPlayer, some through VLC, and some are not recognized as sound files. 2- There is a group of pps/ppt that, after being opened by OpenOffice, yiels one or several .wav files in /tmp. Such files are the audio track. So, OO seems to recognise the sound, but for some reason can't play it. I've got examples of these two behaviours; if you think it can be useful, I can provide them.
