More information, very strange behaviour:

Document on the network opened in kword first is readable in kword, and
one can copy it to the gnome/debian desktop I use on my laptop as my
everyday workspace, where it is perfectly normal, I can open it in oo,
abi, kword, etc.

However, if I try to open it in oo first, I get the prefromatted text
issue, as described previously. Then, any attempt to copy the document to
my desktop results in a totally blank file, o kb.

Worst of all, the file is destroyed on the host machine, meaning that
anything one tries to open with oo across my network is destroyed.

Best.
