to reproduce (note the extra 'ls'): [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ oowriter ls somedocument.odt writer starts up, and eventually displays an error message "/home/flo/ls does not exist". Only this message is hidden behind the splash screen, so it looks as if the startup is suddenly stalled.
