Same happens with cs_CZ locale. My standard settings is: LANG=POSIX LC_CTYPE=cs_CZ LC_NUMERIC="POSIX" LC_TIME="POSIX" LC_COLLATE="POSIX" LC_MONETARY="POSIX" LC_MESSAGES="POSIX" LC_PAPER="POSIX" LC_NAME="POSIX" LC_ADDRESS="POSIX" LC_TELEPHONE="POSIX" LC_MEASUREMENT="POSIX" LC_IDENTIFICATION="POSIX" LC_ALL=
to get accented charactes but english interface. Dead keys do not work with this locales (cz_qwerty keyboard). When I set LANG=cs_CZ, everything works as it should (except that I get czech interface of course). Debian testing, openoffice.org 1.1.1-1, xfree 4.3.0-7. -- Michal Kašpar
