We are remastering a Live CD, either mepis or knoppix, for our site starryskies.com and would rather use the Debian packages of Open Office, however I read that gifs are a problem with the Debian version, is that correct?
I thought the LZW patent had expired and this was no longer an issue. http://cvs.debian.org/*checkout*/oo-debian-files/doc/TODO?rev=HEAD&only_with_tag=HEAD&cvsroot=debian-openoffice&content-type=text/plain says: Replace LZW compression algorithm. Save to Web in writer will not work if there are graphics in the document, because writer converts all bitmaps to GIFs using the patented LZW compression algorithm which we have disabled. See http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=4950 The bug report on openoffice.org is dated May 16, 2002.
