Really, a bug about an X server crash, whatever causes it, belongs to xserver-xfree86 first, since an application should never be able to crash X regardless of how badly it behaves. You didn't say which graphics card you have, which makes me wonder whether you read /usr/share/openoffice.org/README.Debian, where I mentioned several known problems? > BTW - is there a stable branch yet?
