Can you try temporarily switching to another driver such as nv or vesa, and confirm that the problem still exists? Also, please try to get a core dump of the crash: - make sure you are in a directory in which you have write permissions, such as your home directory - enter these commands: ulimit -c 999999 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/openoffice/program /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin - OOo will start up; reproduce the crash When OOo crashes, you should see the message 'Segmentation fault (core dumped)'. and find a file named core or core.[some number] in your working directory.
