No, you don't have to trash .openoffice. The fix works by effectively appending /var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType, along with other well known font paths to the font path of OpenOffice. This means that OOo will now find fonts that are registered in defoma, but if you have problematic font paths in your XF86Config-4 then it is not solved because OOo reads them first. Can you check whether /usr/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType is really OK, and you don't have any dangling fonts.dir files that point to fonts that don't actually exist any more? Buggy versions of msttcorefonts did this. Chris
