No menus are visible on Sid (unstable) or Sarge (testing)

A recent change to the msttcorefonts package causd some fonts that were
previously in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType to be moved without deleting
the corresponding indexes.
Please check your X server font paths (in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4), and change:
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType/"
to:
FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType"
and restart your X server.
(You need to install the x-ttcidfont-conf package)
