I finally found the problem - is turns out that Microsoft fonts (package msttcorefonts) changed the location on the disk, now they are fetched to /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts. So,
the solution to the problem below is to remove the older directories where the former fonts were located, e.g. /usr/local/share/fonts

My collegue also performed an upgrade to 1.1.3-7 and none of the accented letters work in his case now. Apparently, there is a problem with identifying fonts.... How can I realize which fonts does OO utilize ? Is there any utility for fingering out this ? Do you have any idea what could be wrong ?
