Beside <https://mentors.debian.net/> you already identified, you might consider joining subscribing to the mailing lists, or/and joining _a team_. See <https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/> as one of the directories. Teams are set around a language your have experience (e.g., Python), or topic you might be interested in (for instance DebiChem about packages related to Chemistry). At least some of the compiled information how to set up and proceed (example Ruby, <https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Ruby/Packaging>). A third approach can be via repeated use and thus interest for a particular package. A search via <https://tracker.debian.org/> to reach a page like <https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/inchi> provides links to the volunteers who maintain and upload them, as well the versioning system behind the work. The later can be a pattern of reference how to organize and manage the data to ease review, maintenance, finding a sponsor for the eventual upload. Regards, Norwid
