Dear Diane, you are very welcome to take over the work on pysam; indeed, please have a look at our draft package. As indicated earlier in this thread, there is code duplication between pysam and samtools, and this is the reason why I never uploaded it to Debian. This said, if the value of having pysam in Debian outweights the problems of code duplication (and these are seen as "heavy" in the Debian world), it is possible to upload the package and declare the code duplication: http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/secure-testing/data/embedded-code-copies You are also welcome to contribute to our other packages !
