Hello debian-legal, I am looking into packaging a tool called mtkclient (https://github.com/bkerler/mtkclient), and someone who had attempted to package it previously had some concerns about its eligibility.
For context, the application is a flash tool for mediatek devices that uses "payload" binaries to get the device into a flashable state. It isn't clear where these binaries are sourced from, though the application is licensed under GPLv3. Is the application able to be packaged as is? If not, what needs to happen before it can be? -- Thanks, Andrew
