Hi! So I tried it again.
First I was very puzzled cause it would not accept my KWallet password and consequently not even start KMail. On further diagnosis I found that keyboard input was not using German layout like in X11 session. Resetting the keyboard settings to default did not do the trick. So I manually set it to German layout by adding a layout and setting it in keyboard settings in Systemsettings. After I fixed up the keyboard settings like this and after entering the correct password for KWallet KMail showed up like normal again. I am writing this mail on Wayland. I adjusted screen scaling and to my pleasant surprise found all the applets on my laptop screen appear at the same position where I left them under X11. In prior versions I had to rearrange everything manually after the switch. I tried to enable HDR for my external screen and calibrate brightness. A screen appeared asking me to adjust a slider until the logo would only be barely visible. I did not see a logo. But on any move of the mouse pointer the screen should flash to black and then back to this slider adjustment display in a way that I could actually not do the adjustment and had to close the calibration full screen window from context menu of of window list on system tray. Maybe that is something for later. But I would like to see about it, cause I know my external monitor supports HDR. At least I now can more easily find my mouse pointer by moving it rapidly. :) So I will see about how well Wayland works on this session. I hope that the remaining issues I had during a prior test are fixed by now. My main laptop is my most complex setup and I bet I need a while to exercise all the kinds of different scenarios on it to see whether they work correctly. But for the moment I keep it :).
