I may be missing a plugin or something than, as I can find no such
setting.  Actually, I may be missing more than one plugin, because since
transitioning to 6 started, I've 'lost' the services settings page.  I'm
not that bothered, though.  If I were, I'd have dug a round more.

Same here.  Although I usually use Synaptic to do the updates.  I find
its proposed resolutions are often the most sensible, but more
importantly, it's a lot easier to get an 'at a glance' review of proposed
changes, esp. removals, looking at Synaptic's 'Marked Changes' page.
