I cannot reproduce this problem, could you post your /usr/share/info/dir, or the relevant part of it? I think it's related to a known problem: symlinks, such as /usr/share/info/gcc.info.gz -> gcc-4.8.info.gz don't work for info, for it only searches through the dir file.
