Bug#473647: gcc-3.4: no g77

I also agree with original submitter.  We have users whose code works 
fine under g77-3.4 and who have no desire to muck around with trying to 
debug everything again under gfortran.  And as Alan Irwin points out, 
even if we somehow convince them to update their codes for gfortran, not 
having both compilers available simultaneously hinders that.
