Package: gcc-3.0 Version: 1:3.0-0pre010403 Severity: wishlist This in an issue with both gcc 3.0 and gcc 2.95. I just tried to compile my project and got the following message (after tons of make-stuff):
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/thimo/UG/course/appl/couplex' gcc-3.0 -o course2d debug.o course.o lib/libapp2.a ../pclib/lib/libcourse2.a /home/thimo/UG/ug//lib/libug2.a /home/thimo/UG/ug//lib/libdomS2.a /home/thimo/UG/ug//lib/libgrapeOFF2.a /home/thimo/UG/ug//lib/libgg2.a /home/thimo/UG/ug//lib/libdevX.a -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lXaw -lXt -lX11 -lffm -lm collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [course2d] Fehler 1 escher course/appl> I wondered for quite a while what the reason for this was (commented out stuff, analyzed the make-output, etc.) but it was far more easy: an instance of the program was still running which prevented gcc from writing the binary. Now my wish is that gcc tells this instead of "collect2: ld returned 1 exit status" ;-) CU Thimo -- System Information Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: alpha Kernel: Linux escher 2.2.19 #1 Sun Jun 10 06:04:03 UTC 2001 alpha Locale: LANG=de_DE, LC_CTYPE=de_DE Versions of packages gcc-3.0 depends on: ii binutils 2.11.90.0.7-2 The GNU assembler, linker and bina ii cpp-3.0 1:3.0-0pre010403 The GNU C preprocessor. ii gcc-3.0-base 1:3.0-0pre010403 The GNU compiler collection (base ii libc6.1 2.2.3-5 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgcc300 1:3.0-0pre010403 Shared libgcc.
