I don't know, Rob appears to be active but the package has certainly
seen less attention than it deserves.  Perhaps Rob would be willing to
hand off maintenance of this package to a team of Emacs people in Debian
if we ask.

I wouldn't have a problem with that, it's your choice.  Perhaps there is
an alternate solution that we haven't thought of yet...
