In GNU Emacs 22, Auto Compression mode is enabled by default. Therefore and because of the growing number of packages coming with Emacs, it makes sense to compress the Elisp source in the emacs<version>-el package, saving probably some 25-30 Megabytes of disk space. Also, in a way these files are documentation, and that is usually compressed in Debian.
The only drawback is that Emacs won't find the Elisp source files if the user disables auto-compression-mode; but I think few people will want to do that. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
