Try "emacs -nw". > the X interface is very ugly and not particularly useful... You are harsh. I don't find it ugly. Granted, IMHO, the button bars is not very useful for experienced users (but it definitely is attractive for beginners and it is very easy to disable) but other X features of Emacs are useful (like the menus, the keyboard handling, the variety of available fonts, colors, etc.). -- Florent
