About the xfonts problem. I haven't been following close enough to pardon my ignorance on the subject. What if we make the pseudo xbase package conflict with xfnt* packages < version x (a versioned conflict)? How will dselect handle this, will it upgrade the fonts to the new name? If it works, this would seem to be a solution that everyone can live with.
