I can reassure yo on this point. There is no such switch.
You can try tag2upload, or indeed dgit, out for one upload, and then
go back to dput. (Indeed, different maintainers of the same package
can use different upload techniques.)
There is some additional state used by tag2upload and dgit, but it is
completely ignored by the legacy tarball- and dsc-based archive
systems so definitely won't affect dput-based uploads.
