There are basically 3 options: 1. don't do it 2. if git is installed blindly add whatever it returns, knowing that it will often be crap 3. give higher-level tools like git-buildpackage the ability to add it I do not think dpkg trying to reverse-engineer the workflow and status of a git repository would be a sane option. > Thanks, > Guillem cu Adrian
