While I like the idea, isn't d/watch used by Debian tooling to check if new versions are available? I wouldn't say one should want to get rid of it altogether. On the other hand, it could be nice if uscan provided an option to create a template v5 d/watch if it doesn't find any, and finds a suitable d/upstream/metadata instead.
