Do we have data about how many of our installation would be eligible to profit from this new invention? I might think it would be better to spend time on features that all users benefit from (in the case of dpkg, it would be for example a big overhaul of the conffile handling code). But on the other hand, even our dpkg and apt developers are doing splendid work and are still volunteers, so I think they'd get to choose what they do with their babies. If we had Technical Leadership, things would be different, but we deliberately chose to have not.
