A conversation with Owen Dunn produced suggestions of `actual' and
`archive' as name components.
I'm considering:
archive/{debian,ubuntu}/<version>
{debian,ubuntu}/archive/<version>
I'm still considering the capitalisation idea.
Other suggestions welcome.
