I just tried to g++/gcc 5 in chroot, this wanted to pull an additional 400MB: # apt-get install -t experimental gcc g++ Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following extra packages will be installed: cpp cpp-5 g++-5 gcc-5 gcc-5-base libasan2 libatomic1 libcc1-0 libcilkrts5 libgcc-5-dev libgcc1 libgomp1 libitm1 liblsan0 libmpx0 libquadmath0 libstdc++-5-dev libstdc++6 libtsan0 libubsan0 Suggested packages: cpp-doc gcc-5-locales g++-multilib g++-5-multilib gcc-5-doc libstdc++6-5-dbg gcc-multilib manpages-dev flex bison gdb gcc-doc gcc-5-multilib libgcc1-dbg libgomp1-dbg libitm1-dbg libatomic1-dbg libasan2-dbg liblsan0-dbg libtsan0-dbg libubsan0-dbg libcilkrts5-dbg libmpx0-dbg libquadmath0-dbg libstdc++-5-doc The following NEW packages will be installed: cpp-5 g++-5 gcc-5 libasan2 libcc1-0 libgcc-5-dev libmpx0 libstdc++-5-dev The following packages will be upgraded: cpp g++ gcc gcc-5-base libatomic1 libcilkrts5 libgcc1 libgomp1 libitm1 liblsan0 libquadmath0 libstdc++6 libtsan0 libubsan0 14 upgraded, 8 newly installed, 0 to remove and 30 not upgraded. Need to get 85.1 MB/85.1 MB of archives. After this operation, 420 MB of additional disk space will be used. Is this expected? Are those binaries unstripped or how does it come that they are so huge? -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
