Until systemd-networkd can run scripts on events no defence is required. It would be like comparing a calculator to a computer. Sure, the calculator is simple and lightweight, but there are some things you just can't do with a calculator. Right now systemd-networkd looks like a wasted opportunity - maybe it's work in progress. It has some wonderful pattern matching stuff but once it matches the pattern ... there is very little you can do. All the dependency processing packaged with systemd.unit is oddly missing.
