How about adding net.ifnames=0 explicitly on installation, thus keeping the system bootable, with the documentation that the configuration change should be (a) manually and (b) atomically? It's fine with me to have net.ifnames=1 by default. Btw, why the <expletive> is the only way to configure this the kernel command line and no configuration inside /etc where one would expect it?
